» iEARN Egypt Fourth Youth Can Conference 2008

At El Sadat City Language School, Monofia, iEARN Egypt and E-era held the Fourth YouthCaN Annual Conference. Fifteen schools from Alexandria, Cairo, Giza and Monofia participated and presented presentations (Global Warming, Clean Energy, Egyptian Natural Reserves and Air Pollution) in the conference. During the conference, the YouthCaNers participated in different activities:
- Tree Planting: Students planted trees in order to deliver a message to the community the need for a clean green environment
- Recycling: Trainers gave the students recycling practices on how to do it and they tried to do it experimentally with their hands
- Art Mural Activity: Students drew a huge mural with their wishes and hopes for our environmental future
- Music: Part of the students shared in composing a conference's song that was done in the closing ceremony
Mr. Hassan Hemida, Monofia Governor, Mr. Wagdy Afify, Director of the Secondary Education, MOE, Mr. Fouad Megahed, Environmental Culture and Awareness General Director, Ministry of Environmental Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Fouad Abd El Latif, Chairman of El Sadat City, Ms. Rachel Abundo, El Sadat City School Principal and Ms. Aliaa Khalil Trainer and Program Specialist in Business Development, iEARN & E-era attended the conference and gave speech in the conference opening. The conference was covered by OTV, which is a popular satellite channel.

» Global Connections and Exchange Program (GCEP)

iEARN Egypt held the GCEP Alumni training The training was over the duration of two days, sixteen alumni and four teachers participated. The training was conducted at iEARN Egypt office by Mrs. Ebtihal Taha, Trainer and General Manager, ELIXIR, Mrs. Aliaa Khalil Trainer and Program Specialist in Business Development, at iEARN Egypt and Ms. Yasmina Helmy, Program Specialist, at iEARN Egypt. The training's objectives were to:
- Improve writing skills;
- Develop Alumni fundraising abilities and skills;
- Build and develop Alumni’s concept paper and proposal writing skills;
- Develop reporting skills.
This training qualified the trainees to be able to submit concept papers for the GECP Mini Grants.
During the training, Mrs. Alina Romanowski, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Office of Professional and Cultural Exchanges Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs visited iEARN office. She met with some of iEARN Egypt students and trainees (Alumni and teachers). They introduced themselves and talked about their experience with iEARN and how iEARN changed their lives, how its effects in their lives. iEARN was a change makes in their personality and a value added to their lives.
They also shared with Ms. Romanowski their wonderful experience in the iEARN 14th Annual Conference and 11th Youth Summit that was in Egypt. Some of their quotations:
- Shimaa Salem, Faculty of Commerce English Section, Cairo Universty. Joined iEARN since 2002, she said: "iEARN is the best thing in my life. It's the best community I have ever been in as iEARN spirit is really unique. Through iEARN I met the best friends and people ever and I learned many things and gained huge experience not only from my project work or my committee work but also from each person in iEARN. iEARN is my window for the Globe. It helps me a lot to know about different countries, cultures and people and also it gives me a golden chance to have friends around the World"
Donia Fathy Mohamed, Faculty of Science, Cairo University. Joined iEARN since 2005, she participated in the Young Scientist Program and she said about these experiences: "With the young scientist program I worried and scared that I will present the project infront of the science advisor of the Secretary of State. But the challenge that was the first time to me to present, and I would be ambassador to our project. I trusted my self and I did it…"
Mrs. DAS Romanowski was impressed with the iEARNers, their diversity and equality among them. One of the questions asked her: what do you do? she was happy with that and listed to them the many opportunities they can have in their near and far future as they grow giving examples of current president of France (Mr. President Nicolas Sarkozy) and how he was on the IV program (Mr. President Anwar El Sadat too and Mrs. Margert Tatcher), it was a fascinating experience both for her and the Egytian iEARNers.
In the end of the day, Mrs. Dalia Khalil, E-era Director presented to Mrs. DAS Romanowski a silver plate as a token of appreciation for all her and ECA's support and encouragement. Ms. Nanis Yousry, the Local Youth Representative, presented a Mural about peace that was painted by iEARN students in 2005. It was a wonderful meeting from the heart and also very objective. |

» The iEARN 14th Annual International Conference and 11th Youth Summit

iEARN Egypt and E-era (The Egyptian Association for Educational Resources) held The 14th iEARN Annual International Conference and 11th Youth Summit at Mubarak City for Education, July 21st – 26th. Forty-three iEARN countries, seven hundred and fifty eight educator and youth participated and attended the conference and youth summit.
Through the conference and summit, there were about hundred and forty-five presentations (plenary sessions, workshops, papers, progress meeting sessions, demonstrations, ICT Corners, plays and cultural shows from the participating countries). No doubt that the conference theme (Connecting Cutlers… Respecting Differences: A Global Dialogue for development and Sustainability) achieved its aims as it was obviously touched through the active interaction of participants, international speakers and leaders in the fields of education, ICT and exchanges. » iEARN Third Youth Can Conference

At the American Center in Alexandria, iEARN Egypt held the Third YouthCaN Annual Conference. Students from different governorates participated and presented presentations (Recycling Medicine, Solar Energy, Power of Nature, Nuclear Energy, Recycling, Safari and Climate Change). They also had a video conference with their colleagues in Lebanon. |
